REIKI

Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a natural, simple and safe healing system. It is a holistic approach to treating many acute and chronic conditions. Reiki originated in Tibet and was rediscovered by a Japanese monk named Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1870's. Today Reiki is practised worldwide and has risen in popularity due to it's success in the treatment of today's health problems.

The Eastern concept of health is broader than that of the West. To be healthy is not just to be free from disease. A person cannot be called healthy if he/she is often restless, irritable or extremely forgetful, cannot concentrate or sleep soundly, and has no zest for work or play.

How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki helps to release blocked energy centres. It affects each person differently but will always go to wherever the receiver needs it most. It helps the receiver to relax and reduces stress and promotes proper function of internal organs. Reiki stimulates the body's natural healing abilities. If our supply of energy is low and depleted, we suffer from physical, emotional and mental exhaustion, and tend to be much more irritable, bad tempered and depressed than usual.

Reiki can help
  • headaches/migraines
  • stress
  • depression
  • aching limbs
  • tiredness/ME
  • physical, mental and emotional healing
  • strengthened immune system
  • to increase energy and vitality
  • to release blocked energy
  • to increase concentration
  • to increase self confidence
  • to detoxify the body

Reiki is now being used in various settings including private practice, complementary therapy centres, GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, cancer support groups, post-operative recovery and in the care of the elderly.

Reiki is totally natural and is complementary to all other therapies and conventional medicine.

    The Reiki Treatment
Reiki is a very simple process but usually produces quite profound effects. At the first appointment a case history is taken before Reiki is given. The receiver should remove their watch and any jewellery, shoes, belts and loosen tight clothing. The client remains fully clothed. The session begins by lying on a treatment couch, with closed eyes and listening to gentle, soothing music, which helps to produce a state of deep relaxation. Then the Reiki practitioner will gently rest their hands on you, non-intrusively, in a series of positions from the crown of the head to the feet.

As Reiki energy flows, most people will feel warmth or heat, or tingling from the practitioner's hands. It is usually a very relaxing experience: some people fall asleep. Sometimes people have an emotional release, as emotional turmoil is brought to the surface and dissipated.

While Reiki is very effective, it is not a miracle cure, and the effects of Reiki treatments are cumulative. To experience the full benefit of Reiki I would recommend four to six sessions. In my experience, this number of sessions are usually enough to sort out stress, tension, anxiety, sleeplessness and emotional problems; physical symptoms can take a little longer, but not always. Reiki generally produces long-term beneficial changes, so you do not need to keep coming back for endless Reiki sessions. However, once you have felt how wonderful it feels, you may want to keep coming back again and again!

No matter what your particular complaint, the general effect of Reiki treatments seems to be to make you feel more relaxed, more calm, less stressed and more able to cope. It seems to boost energy levels, raise spirits, and make you feel more positive about things. Stressful situations seem to wash over you.
